A dental implant replaces a missing tooth. The implant itself is a titanium post that is inserted into the jaw to replace the tooth root and provide stability. A crown is placed atop the implant to replace the missing tooth, enabling the patient to chew and speak normally. In addition, dental implants can be used to secure a denture or bridge. The process of getting dental implants takes several months and requires oral surgery. However, the results are unmatched by any other treatment. Dental implants provide a long-lasting solution to the problem of missing teeth. Whether a tooth (or multiple teeth) has been lost due to trauma or poor dental hygiene, dental implants can restore the integrity of the smile as well as the patient’s confidence. For most patients who are missing teeth, dental implants are simply the ideal treatment.
The first step in the process is to place the implant in the jawbone. We offer options for sedation to keep you feeling comfortable and relaxed during the procedure. After this surgery, some time must pass in order for the implant and bone to bond. You’ll be able to wear a temporary one as you wait.
Depending on your individual case, an abutment may need to be placed on the implant. Then, we’ll attach your custom-made crown, bridge, or denture.
Some patients may need to undergo additional procedures before a dental implant can be placed. Such treatments may include socket preservation, ridge modification, or sinus augmentation. These procedures are done to ensure that your implants have a solid foundation.
